DESCRIPTION OF THE TREATMENT METHODS USED BY THE ALCOHOL TREATMENT UNIT AT THE US PENITENTIARY AT LEAVENWORTH (KA) WHICH ALLOW PARTICIPATING INMATES A CHOICE OF THEORETICAL ORIENTATIONS.
Abstract
DISCUSSION INCLUDES ASSESSMENTS OF THE ATTITUDES OF PARTICIPANTS, THE GENERAL INMATE POPULATION, AND CORRECTIONAL STAFF MEMBERS AS WELL AS BRIEF CONVERAGE OF THE PROGRAM'S SUCCESS RATE. SELECTION PROCEDURES ARE EXPLORED AND THE INMATE'S CHOICE OF EITHER TRANSACTIONAL ANALYSIS OR RATIONAL SELF COUNSELING AS A TREATMENT FRAMEWORK AFTER EXPOSURE TO BOTH CONCEPTS IS REVIEWED. CONSIDERATION IS ALSO FIVEN TO THE THERAPEUTIC VALUES OF PEER PRESSURE AND ENCOUNTER AND CONFRONTATION GROUPS.
