This is the Annual Report of the Inspector of the Police Integrity Commission of New South Wales (Australia), whose responsibility is to investigate complaints against the Police Integrity Commission's staff, to audit the Commission's effectiveness and compliance with the law, and to report to the Joint Committee on the Office of the Ombudsman and the Police Integrity Commission.
Abstract
During the current reporting period (July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2011), 11 complaints concerning the Commission's actions were received by the Inspector's Office, and an additional 7 complaints were carried over from the previous reporting period. Unless otherwise indicated, each complaint has been assigned an identification code. This Annual Report's summary of the complaints includes a number of complaints alleging misconduct by New South Wales (NSW) police, and were therefore outside the Inspector's jurisdiction. Other complaints pertain to actions by the Commission regarding complaints against NSW police. This report presents a summary of each of these complaints and the actions taken by the Inspector in the disposition of the complaint against the Commission. Other complaints pertain to specific actions by the Commission regarding its adherence to NSW law in the performance of its duties.
