This report details the activities and accomplishments of the Institute for Civil Justice from April 1, 1992 through 1993, with emphasis on its current research agenda and efforts to disseminate the research findings so that they are used in policymaking.
Abstract
The current research agenda focuses on five major policy themes: (1) mass torts and environmental liability, (2) the economic consequences of the liability system, (3) compensation systems, (4) court outcomes, and (5) dispute resolution processing. The findings are disseminated through technical reports, a newsletter, issue papers, and an annual report that uses a revised format, together with policy roundtables and conferences. Most funding for these efforts comes from general operating revenues provided by a wide variety of corporations, organizations, private foundations, and individuals and from project-specific grants from government contracts and private foundations. New funding initiatives are designed to double the size of the revenue base over the next 3 years. Figures, photographs, and lists of publications, staff and board members, and contributors.
