A planned system which is expected to provide greater efficiency in the handling of various types of crime and incident reports for the San Jose, California, Police Department is described.
Abstract
The system, or Operations Support Model, was developed as part of the city's effort to cope with budgetary restrictions. Implementation is expected by late 1980. The model provides for a structured approach to supplying support services to management and to patrol and investigative services. Various independent support services are integrated in order to improve the flow of records and information. An introductory report provides information on the city and its police department, the administration of the LEAA grant, the history of the system project and expectations. Appendixes contain an organization chart, a report to the city council, electronic data processing equipment approval documents, report generation and processing flow charts, schematic diagrams of the model, a Support Model flow chart, a proposed staffing plan, a patrol allocation plan evaluation, a narrative task plan, and a local evaluation report.
