SOCIAL INTERVENTION ON BEHALF OF SKID ROW INHABITANTS IS SAID TO BE DIFFICULT DUE TO THE MULTITUDE OF PHYSICAL, ECONOMIC, PSYCHOLOGICAL, RESIDENTIAL, INTERPERSONAL, AND DRINKING PROBLEMS INVOLVED.
Abstract
GENERALIZED NEGATIVE ATTITUDES TOWARD SKID ROW INDIVIDUALS ARE INCORPORATED IN VARYING DEGREES IN THE ATTITUDES OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AND HEALTH PROFESSIONALS WHO DEAL WITH THEM. PROGRAMS INTENDED TO AID SKID ROW PEOPLE BOTH BY THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AND HEALTH PROFESSIONALS WHO DEAL WITH THEM. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT HEALTH WORRIERS SHOULD HAVE NONJUDGMENTAL AND NONMORALISTIC ATTITUDES, THAT THEY BE TRAINED IN THE MULTIFACETED PROBLEMS THEY WILL FACE, THAT THEY CONCENTRATE ON PROVIDING MOTIVATION TO THOSE WHOM THEY ARE SERVING, AND THAT THEIR EXPECTATIONS OF IMMEDIATE AND GREAT IMPROVEMENTS BE RECOGNIZED AS UNREALISTIC.
