Abstract
It is suggested that the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have access to information that is crucial to an understanding of the operation of the criminal justice system. If efficiently gathered and processed, this information will be useful not only to internal CPS management to demonstrate and assess the impact of the new service and its fairness, accountability, and efficiency, but also for the wider purposes of studying the efficiency and effectiveness of other parts of the criminal justice system. Methods for implementing an information database are discussed.
