STUDY OF A NUMBER OF MATERIALS WHICH MAY BE PRESENT IN POST-MORTEM SAMPLES AS A RESULT OF PUTREFACTIVE CHANGES IN THE BODY.
Abstract
DATA ARE PRESENTED REGARDING THE DETECTION, IDENTIFICATION, AND SEPARATION OF THESE PUTREFACTIVE COMPOUNDS AND OTHER RELATED SUBSTANCES FROM CO-EXTRACTABLE DRUGS USING MODERN ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES. THESE TECHNIQUES WERE USED BOTH IN THE ANALYSIS OF BLOOD SAMPLES STORED AT ROOM TEMPERATURE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND IN CASES OF MEDICOLEGAL INTEREST WHERE CONSIDERABLE DELAY HAS OCCURRED BEFORE DEATH HAS BEEN DISCOVERED. IT WAS FOUND THAT B-PHENYLETHYLAMINE WAS THE MOST FREQUENTLY ENCOUNTERED PUTREFACTIVE SUBSTANCE. IT WAS NOT FOUND TO BE POSSIBLE TO PREDICT THE DEGREE TO WHICH IT OCCURS WITH TIME. THIS AND THE PRESENCE OF OTHER RELATED SUBSTANCES APPEARS TO BE ERRATIC. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
