This report from the United Nations Economic and Social Council presents information on efforts by Member States to implement the Council's policies and measures in the areas of prevention, investigation, prosecution, and punishment of economic fraud and identity-related crime.
Abstract
In 2009, the United Nations Economic and Social Council developed a set of recommendations for Member States to take to combat economic fraud and identity-related crime. These recommendations include ensuring adequate investigative powers and updating relevant laws, developing and maintaining adequate law enforcement and investigative capacity, establishing new offenses and updating existing ones in response to the evolution of economic fraud and identity-related crime, developing an approach for collecting comparable data on the nature and extent of the problem, studying the impact of the problem at the national level, and adopting useful practices and efficient mechanisms for supporting victims of economic fraud and identity-related crime. This report presents a brief summary of the work of Member States in the implementation of the Council's policies and measures. Summaries were received from the following countries: Algeria, Armenia, Australia, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, China, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Egypt, El Salvador, Germany, Ghana, Guatemala, Japan, Jordan, Mauritius, Mexico, Morocco, the Netherlands, Norway, Panama, the Philippines, Poland, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, Serbia, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
