The International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO/Interpol) has 135 member countries and aims to prevent and suppress ordinary crime, including drug-related crime.
Abstract
Each country's government has designated an Interpol National Central Bureau to cooperate with other nations within the Interpol framework. The Drugs Subdivision of Interpol's General Secretariat monitors and responds to incoming communications on drug enforcement matters. It also conducts intelligence analyses of information and produces tactical and strategic intelligence reports as well as statistical and other specialized reports. In 1982 it received 33,181 and dispatched 6,741 drug-related communications. These communications made up more than 60 percent of all the communications of the General Secretariat. The Drugs Subdivision also takes part in drug training and drug strategy seminars throughout the world. Interpol also carries out drug liaison officer programs in five regions of the world.
