An international exchange between Canada and Great Britain is providing youth with a forum to share their experiences and gain a global perspective on issues that youth are experiencing, including youth crime prevention, violence prevention, conflict resolution, mediation, suicide prevention, domestic assault, and racism
Abstract
Scottish police officers and youth traveled to Nova Scotia, Canada, for an educational workshop in June 1999. Canadian youth visited Scotland in August 2000 for an interactive workshop with 150 youth from across Scotland. Participants learned that youth in Scotland and Canada had similar lives. However, the age of criminal responsibility was 8 years in Scotland and 12 years in Canada. The strong friendships that emerged during the exchanges were one indicator of the program’s success. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police intend to expand the program. Photographs
