SUPPORT FOR INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM BY THE COMMUNIST GOVERNMENTS IN MOSCOW, PEKING, HAVANA, AND EAST BERLIN IS EXAMINED AGAINST A PANORAMA OF WORLDWIDE HIJACKINGS, BOMBINGS, HOSTAGE-TAKINGS, AND ASSASSINATIONS.
Abstract
ACTS OF TERROR IN EUROPE, THE MIDDLE EAST, SOUTH AMERICA, AFRICA, PUERTO RICO, AND THE UNITED STATES ARE REVIEWED. IT IS ARGUED THAT THE INTERNATIONAL DIMENSIONS AND SEEMING COORDINATION OF TRANSNATIONAL TERRORISM ARE THE RESULT OF A LOOSE COALITION OF ASSORTED RADICAL GROUPS AND SYMPATHETIC COMMUNIST POLITICOS WILLING TO SUPPLY THE ARMS, TRAINING, AND FUNDS NECESSARY TO ASSURE THE CONTINUING DISRUPTION BY TERRORISTS OF INDUSTRIAL STABILITY IN THE WEST. MOSCOW'S SUPPORT OF INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM IS DETAILED, ALONG WITH CUBA'S ROLE IN PROMOTING REVOLUTIONS AND THE BOUNDS OF MAOIST AND TROTSKYITE TERRORISM. A PSYCHOLOGICAL AND IDEOLOGICAL PROFILE IS PROVIDED OF ULRIKE MEINHOF, THE COFOUNDER OF THE BAADER-MEINHOF TERROR GROUP, WHICH DESPITE BOTH BAADER'S AND MEINHOF'S PRISON-CELL SUICIDES CONTINUES TO OPERATE IN WESTERN EUROPE AS THE RED ARMY FACTION. THE ROLE THAT JAILED TERRORISTS PLAY IN DIRECTING EXISTING UNDERGROUND NETWORKS IS BRIEFLY REVIEWED, AS ARE THE POSSIBLE FUTURE DIMENSIONS OF SUCH RADICAL AGGRESSION. REFERENCES ARE FOOTNOTED. (KBL)
