The Internet offers corrections practitioners with a fast, reliable resource for learning about new products, services, and technologies from government and business Web sites.
A starting place on the Internet might be the Federal agencies with websites. The Department of Justice website offers the option of searching the Department and all Federal Government servers. Typing in the two words, corrections technology, will result in more than 7,000 documents related to grant information, technology, jobs, and studies. This website also provides links to the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the National Institute of Corrections. The website of the Office of Justice Programs has links to the Bureau of Justice Assistance and National Institute of Justice and further links to the National Criminal Justice Reference Service, and National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center, an online gateway to law enforcement and corrections technology through the website JUSTNET. JUSTNET also provides information about the NIJ-funded projects involving radar-based, through-the-wall surveillance systems; voice response translator devices; pepper spray projectile dispersers; laser dazzlers; and telemedicine. Almost all States have corrections websites. Business-related websites that showcase produces and services include Jail.Net, The Corrections Connection, the American Correctional Association, and the American Jail Association.
