THE INTERSTATE COMPACT ON PLACEMENT OF CHILDREN IS DISCUSSED, AND THE MAIN POINTS IN TWO OTHER INTERSTATE COMPACTS GOVERNING PLACEMENTS ARE SUMMARIZED.
Abstract
AN ASSISTANT CHIEF OF A SOCIAL SERVICE BUREAU EXPLAINS THAT THE COMPACT, WHICH WAS ENACTED IN 1960, PERMITS CHILD PLACEMENT ACTIVITIES TO BE PURSUED THROUGHOUT THE 43 PRESENT MEMBER STATES IN A MANNER SIMILAR TO THAT IN A SINGLE STATE. IT ASSURES CONTINUING JURISDICTION OF THE SENDING AGENCY OVER CHILDREN IN RECEIVING STATES. THE PARTICULAR AIMS OF THE COMPACT, STATE RESPONSIBILITIES, AND JUVENILES SERVED ARE REVIEWED, AND STATISTICAL DATA IS PRESENTED. THEN, THE PROVISIONS OF THE INTERSTATE COMPACT ON JUVENILES AND OF THE INTERSTATE COMPACT ON MENTAL HEALTH ARE OUTLINED. THE AUDIOTAPE CASSETTE IS SUITABLE FOR GENERAL AUDIENCES. A TABLE OF CONTENTS IS PROVIDED, BUT OTHER SUPPORTING MATERIALS ARE NOT INCLUDED. FOR RELATED TAPES, SEE NCJ 69273-78 AND 69280-85.
