Interview and interrogation, also referred to as inquiry and persuasion, are essential law enforcement techniques, and this text provides training guidance on how to develop and use such techniques in criminal investigations.
Abstract
The text is divided into six chapters, each organized around the concept of process: rapport as the foundation process, motive as the explanation process, the inquiry process, the persuasion process, the process of deception, and the process of totality. Each of the first five chapters is followed by a series of questions designed to complement what an investigator will apply to the inquiry portion of the investigative process. The final chapter provides an opportunity to apply the inquiry and persuasion concepts addressed in the first five chapters to the transcript of an interview. Appendixes contain specific exercises designed to supplement a particular concept, along with forms that may be incorporated into the investigator's own methods. Notes and illustrations
