This study examined the relationship between women's economic wellbeing and intimate partner violence.
Abstract
This study examines the utility of theoretical explanations of intimate partner violence that take both gender and socioeconomic factors into account and to investigate possible racial and ethnic differences in these models. Chapter 1 examines the universal risk perspective and intersectionality. Chapter 2 discusses the connections between intimate partner violence and socioeconomic factors. Included are analyses of the intersection of violence and ethnic minority groups. Chapter 3 examines the theoretical explanations of intimate partner violence. Chapter 4 discusses survey research which constitutes an essential element in the methodology of researching violence against women. Chapter 5 discusses the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study (Fragile Families), an ongoing nationally-representative birth cohort study following 4,898 U.S. families. Chapter 6 discusses bivariate analyses for continuous predictor variables of male-to-female physical violence in urban families. Chapter 7 examines the bivariate relationships between male-to-female coercive control and sociodemographic control variables. Chapter 8 provides conclusions and recommendations.
