Abstract
THE WORKBOOK IS DESIGNED TO PERMIT FLEXIBILITY IN THE INSTRUCTOR'S PRESENTATION WHILE STIMULATING THE STUDENT TO BECOME ACTIVELY INVOLVED BY TAKING NOTES, COMPLETING THE EXERCISES, AND TAKING TESTS FOR EACH CHAPTER. THE WORKBOOK DIVIDES THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM INTO BASIC PARTS (POLICE, COURTS, AND CORRECTIONS) AND SUBDIVIDES EACH PART INTO ITS BASIC COMPONENTS. THE SUBJECT OF POLICE, FOR EXAMPLE, IS SUBDIVIDED INTO CHAPTERS ON POLICE, POLICE ORGANIZATIONS, POLICE FUNCTIONS, AND CRISIS INTERVENTION BY POLICE. CHAPTER FORMATS VARY ACCORDING TO SUBJECT MATTER. SOME USE OUTLINES WITH GAPS TO BE FILLED IN BY THE STUDENT; OTHERS, QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED BY THE STUDENT; STILL OTHERS, SHORT READINGS OR DIAGRAMS. ASSIGNMENTS RANGE FROM LIBRARY RESEARCH TO DIRECT INVESTIGATION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES. APPENDIXES PRESENT CHAPTER QUIZZES, ASSIGNMENT SHEETS, AND A LIST OF 19 INTRODUCTORY BOOKS ON THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE. FOR THE TEXT WHICH THIS WORKBOOK ACCOMPANIES, SEE NCJ 15343. (CFW)
