A CLASSROOM TEXT WHICH PROVIDES A GENERAL BACKGROUND ON THE WORKINGS OF THE JUVENILE COURT AND DISCUSSES SUCH SPECIFIC AREAS IN JUVENILE JUSTICE AS CHILD ABUSE, TREATMENT METHODS, AND YOUTH SERVICE BUREAUS.
Abstract
THE DEVELOPMENT, JURISDICTION, ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF THE JUVENILE COURT ARE FIRST DISCUSSED. THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JUVENILE COURT PERSONNEL - JUDGES, DIRECTOR OF INTAKE SERVICES, PROBATION COUNSELORS, AND DETENTION AND REHABILITATION PERSONNEL - ARE ALSO EXPLORED. THE RESOURCES THAT MAY BE USED AS AN ORGANIZATIONAL INTERFACE BETWEEN POLICE, SCHOOLS, AND JUVENILE COURTS ARE INDICATED, AND THE PURPOSE, ORGANIZATION, AND FUNCTIONING OF YOUTH SERVICE BUREAUS ARE REVIEWED. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE THE POLITICALIZATION OF THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM AND THE FUTURE DIMENSIONS OF THIS SYSTEM. INCLUDED IN THE APPENDIXES ARE INFORMATION ON POSITION CLASSIFICATIONS AND PERSONNEL POLICIES IN THE JUVENILE COURT, AND TYPICAL INVENTORIES OF COMMUNITY RESOURCES AND LEGAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE FORMS USED.
