A teacher's guide, student worksheet, cassette tape, phonograph record, and 61 slides constitute this kit of curriculum materials on statistical methods for hypothesis testing.
Abstract
The kit is one of 10 modules on probability and statistics. The program materials explain the statistical diagnosis of a hypothesis. They also introduce the concepts of acceptance regions, rejection regions, and critical values. In addition, they explain the concepts of Type I errors, Type II errors, one-tailed tests, and two-tailed tests. The null hypothesis, alternative hypothesis, problems with small samples, problems involving a proportion, and problems involving a difference of two means are also discussed. Examples, problems, and solutions follow the explanation of each new concept. A worksheet containing hypothetical problems from mathematics, economics, and education is included to give students more experience with the types of problems discussed The teacher's guide explains program objectives and the content of the other modules. It also provides instructions for use of the module, a summary of program content, and the script of the tape and phonograph record presentations. Its final sections list definitions and formulas used and give answers to worksheet problems.
