This bulletin describes the TELEMASP (Texas Law Enforcement Management and Administrative Statistics Program) and reviews the topics of future bulletins as well as the sample of agencies that will be used in TELEMASP surveys.
Abstract
TELEMASP is one of several endeavors of the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas. TELEMASP bulletins are designed to provide Texas police managers with timely information on administrative policies, programs, and strategies throughout the States. TELEMASP is an ongoing, cyclical administrative survey designed to meet this need. It involves a continual data-gathering process. Among future bulletin topics is an analysis of the staffing level trends of Texas cities; this survey will focus on the correlation between the crime rate and the staffing level of each city over the last 10 years. Recruit selection processes will also be examined, along with policy directives. The latter will address off-duty police employment, citizen complaints, juvenile offenders, and vehicular pursuit. Other bulletins will focus on such programs as the School Resource Officer programs and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) programs. Three types of specialized police units will be studied by TELEMASP: narcotics, gangs, and crime analysis. Depending on the topic to be addressed, agencies included in the data set will vary. 1 table and 1 figure
