BASED ON INMATE QUESTIONNAIRES AND INTERVIEWS, REVIEWS OF CORRECTIONS REPORTS AND DOCUMENTS, AND INTERVIEWS WITH CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL, THIS DOCUMENT PROVIDES A STUDY OF THE CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF FEDERAL PRISON STRIKES.
Abstract
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF PRISONS IS FIRST PROVIDED. A REVIEW OF SEVEN STRIKES IN FEDERAL PRISONS IS THEN PRESENTED. FOR EACH STRIKE, DESCRIPTIONS OF THE INMATE GRIEVANCES, INMATE ACTIONS, CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL ACTIONS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIONS ARE INCLUDED. MAJOR ISSUES INVOLVED IN FEDERAL PRISON STRIKES ARE INVESTIGATED IN THE THIRD CHAPTER. THESE ISSUES INCLUDE DISCIPLINE AND DUE PROCESS, PRISON LABOR IN FEDERAL PRISONS, STUDY AND WORK RELEASE, FEDERAL PRISON PERSONNEL, AND PAROLE.
