The report presents narrative and statistics on the Consumer Protection Division's investigations of consumer complaints and litigation against violators of consumer laws. Similar information is shared on the Consumer Credit Protection Bureau's administration, enforcement, and interpretation of the Iowa Consumer Credit Code.
Abstract
Discussion covers loan-finding schemes, automobile complaints, advertising and mail-order problems, landlord-tenant disputes, complaints against health spas and weight salons, and other areas of consumer complaints. Statistics show the number of complaints by type and their disposition. A highlight was the continued success of a volunteer project staffed by college students and others serving as complaint handlers. Complaints and litigation under the State's Consumer Credit Code are also shown. A list of statutes enforced by the division is appended.
