Eleven papers examine treatment and corrections issues in the management of juvenile delinquency.
Abstract
They discuss current practices in risk and needs assessments of juveniles in the correctional system, call for greater advocacy to create a juvenile justice system geared fully to the child's best interests, and review juvenile correctional training needs. Others describe a skills training program for juvenile delinquency prevention, profile serious property and violent offenders in Illinois juvenile corrections facilities, and highlight a computerized client tracking and program monitoring system. Additional papers look at the programmatic needs of emotionally disturbed juvenile offenders and current management practices, provide guidelines for working with troubled youth, and describe a treatment-oriented program for violent juvenile offenders. The use of a teen court to relieve juvenile court caseloads and involve youth in the judicial process and probation's therapeutic aspects are final subjects considered. Tables and references.
