Abstract
THE TECHNIQUES DISCUSSED ARE DESIGNED TO BE ADAPTED TO ALMOST ANY SITUATION. INCLUDED AMONG THE AREAS COVERED ARE: BOOKING/INTAKE PROCEDURES, SECURITY AND SEARCH TECHNIQUES, INMATE CLASSIFICATION-SEGREGATION, CELLBLOCK SEARCHES, FEEDING, ESCAPE/HOSTAGE POLICY, PRISONER COUNTS, INMATE DISCIPLINE, SANITATION, VISITOR AND MAIL CONTROL, RELEASE PROCEDURES, AND RECORDS MANAGEMENT. THE SPECIAL PROBLEMS PRESENTED BY INTOXICATED PRISONERS ARE HIGHLIGHTED. TOPICS ARE DISCUSSED FROM THE POINTS OF VIEW OF THE EX-INMATE, THE JAIL SUPERVISOR, THE POLICE CAPTAIN, AND THE PATROL OFFICER ASSIGNED TO JAIL DUTY. EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON 'ALWAYS DO' AND 'NEVER DO' TECHNIQUES TO AVOID PRISONER LAWSUITS.
