The Orange County (Fla.) Corrections Division regards itself as responsible for an inmates condition upon release into the community. It uses a new concept known as dual sentencing which allows for the presiding judge to monitor both the inmate's program participation and the modification of lifestyles.
Abstract
To provide inmates with the opportunity to experience positive changes and acquire the skills necessary to become responsible citizens, the county has designed a continuum of care based on an assessment of each inmate's need at the time of booking. Programs and facilities are assigned and changed based on needs and may include traditional incarceration, community-based corrections, and community control. Correctional alternatives range from pretrial diversion for first offenders through maximum security lockup for pretrial detention of extremely dangerous offenders. Additional correctional facilities are also being planned to accommodate the increasing numbers of offenders. Appended list of programs and services including drug treatment services, vocational programs, life skills training, mental health services, and educational programs
