THIS REPORT COVERS THE JOB ANALYSIS PHASE OF EXAMINATION DEVELOPMENT CARRIED OUT IN 1974, BASED ON MORE THAN 1400 JOB ELEMENT STATEMENTS COLLECTED FROM A REPRESENTATIVE GROUP OF 155 PERSONNEL.
Abstract
DIVERSE GROUPS SUCH AS TROOPERS, SUPERVISORS, AND TRAFFIC SAFETY OFFICERS, INCLUDING MINORITY GROUP MEMBERS AND WOMEN POLICE, IDENTIFIED SIMILAR JOB ELEMENTS AS IMPORTANT IN DETERMINING WORKER EFFECTIVENESS. EDUCATIONAL LEVEL, LOCATION OF ASSIGNMENTS, YEARS OF JOB EXPERIENCE, AND PARTICIPATION IN ELEMENT GENERATION SESSIONS DID NOT HAVE IMPACT ON THEIR RATINGS. THE ANALYSES RESULTED IN A LIST OF CRITICAL WORKER REQUIREMENTS: 15 JOB ELEMENTS OR KEY REQUIREMENTS; 80 MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS; AND 223 JOB ELEMENT STATEMENTS, WHICH WERE CLASSIFIED UNDER THE JOB ELEMENTS, FORMING THE RANKING REQUIREMENTS. SIX OF THE ELEMENTS SHOWED SOME OVERLAP WITH KEY REQUIREMENTS FOUND IN SEVEN OTHER POLICE STUDIES. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
