This article describes two partnerships that demonstrate how businesses and law enforcement can work together to solve problems.
Abstract
Private security professionals are joining with local, State and Federal law enforcement to investigate past crimes and develop cooperative programs to prevent future incidents. An informal New Jersey partnership involves AlliedSignal, Inc., a technology and manufacturing company serving the aerospace, automotive and chemical industries, and local law enforcement and security professionals. Participants in the group work together to prevent criminal activity and share information on topics such as terrorism, personal security training, and disaster management. The group plans to further develop the partnership to include joint training exercises. The Business/Law Enforcement Alliance in California is a more formal organization with 200 participants and programs to reduce check fraud, rental equipment theft, and false burglar alarms. The alliance has helped police track a criminal's path, resulting in successful sting operations and arrests.
