SUGGESTIONS ON WAYS TO ACHIEVE ACCORD AND MUTUAL RESPECT BETWEEN THE JUDICIARY AND THE PUBLIC PRESS.
Abstract
STRIFE BETWEEN JUDGES AND NEWSMEN HAS BEEN CAUSED BY THE ISSUANCE OF COURT ORDERS DEMANDING THE DISCLOSURE OF SOURCES BY JOURNALISTS TO THE BENCH. THE AUTHOR OF THIS ARTICLE CONTENDS THAT THE JUDICIARY DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL COMMITMENT WHICH A NEWSMAN MAKES TO HIS SOURCES WHEN HE ASSURES THEM ANONYMITY. THE RECOMMENDED SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OF MISUNDERSTANDING IS FOR JUDGES AND REPORTERS TO SIT DOWN TOGETHER AND DISCUSS DISAGREEMENTS AND COMPROMISES.
