Abstract
THE WASHINGTON SENTENCING STATUTES ARE DISCUSSED IN THE CONTEXT OF THE DISCRETIONARY POWERS THEY GRANT TO THE SENTENCING JUDGE AND THE OBJECTIVES OF SENTENCING. THE RESTRICTIVE NATURES OF ALTERNATIVES TO PROBATION ARE ALSO DISCUSSED. SOME OF THE AUTHOR'S PERSONAL REFLECTIONS ON THE JUDICIAL SENTENCING ROLE ARE INCLUDED.
