This report describes the objectives, personnel, operations, administration, and finances of the Judicial Commission of New South Wales, Australia during the year ending June 30, 1991.
Abstract
The mission of the eight-member commission is to improve justice by providing the judiciary with research and education services, advise the Attorney General, and examine complaints against judicial officers. Highlights during 1990-91 included the initiation of the Sentencing Information System, a computerized database on sentencing; the publication of the first issue of the Sentencing Trends Bulletin; and the publication of the revised Judicial Officers Bulletin. Other activities included introducing prebench training for magistrates, commissioning a Bench Book for the Land and Environment Court, and demonstrating the Sentencing Information System at a United Nations Congress.
