THIS ANNUAL REPORT INCLUDES ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND STATISTICS OF THE LOUISIANA SUPREME COURT FOR 1979.
Abstract
ACCOMPLISHMENTS DISCUSSED INCLUDE THE STATE LEGISLATURE'S CREATION OF FIVE NEW JUDGESHIPS ON THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE JUDICIAL COUNCIL OF THE SUPREME COURT. THE COUNCIL WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1954 TO EVALUATE AND MONITOR THE OPERATIONS AND PROCEDURES OF THE STATE'S JUDICIAL SYSTEM. HOWEVER, THE LEGISLATION DID NOT APPROVE AN INCREASE IN THE BUDGET OF THE LOUISIANA JUDICIAL COLLEGE. THE ANNUAL REPORT INCLUDES INFORMATION ON THE COLLEGE AS WELL AS REPORTS ON THE JUDICIARY COMMISSION, THE JUDICIAL PLANNING COMMITTEE, AND THE JUDICIAL BUDGET. IT LISTS THE MEMBERS OF THE SUPREME COURT, THE COUNCIL, THE COMMITTEE, THE COMMISSION, THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE COLLEGE, AND JUDGES OF THE COURTS OF APPEAL, DISTRICT COURTS, CITY COURTS, AND PARISH (COUNTY) COURTS. CHARTS, TABLES, AND MAPS ARE INCLUDED.
