COMPREHENSIVE JUDICIAL RETIREMENT PLANS ARE REVIEWED FOR THE 50 STATES.
Abstract
FOLLOWING A BRIEF INTRODUCTORY ESSAY WHICH EXAMINES SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN JUDICIAL RETIREMENT PLANS SINCE 1974, THE PLANS FOR EACH STATE ARE PRESENTED IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER. EACH STATE SURVEY CONSISTS OF EIGHT PARTS: JUDGES WHO ARE COVERED BY THE PLAN; AGE AND SERVICE REQUIREMENTS; CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE RETIREMENT FUND THAT MUST BE MADE BY THE JUDGE AND THE STATE; DESCRIPTION OF THE RETIREMENT, DISABILITY AND DEATH BENEFITS; PROVISIONS FOR JUDICIAL SERVICE AFTER RETIREMENT; AND STATUTORY AND CONSTITUTIONAL CITATIONS TO THE RETIREMENT PROVISIONS. THE RETIREMENT SURVEYS FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, PUERTO RICO, AND THE FEDERAL SYSTEM FOLLOW THE STATE SURVEYS. TABLES OUTLINE MANDATORY RETIREMENT PLANS AND COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENTS.
