The National Center for State Courts regularly contacts court administrative offices to determine current salaries for judges and court administrators.
Abstract
Salaries reported in most cases are effective as of January 1, 1989. Since July 1988, 13 States have reported changes in salaries. Salaries of associate judges of the highest courts range from $50,452 to $115,000, with a mean salary of $77,231 and a median salary of $77,900. Salaries of judges of intermediate appellate courts range from $59,052 to $102,500, with a mean of $76,694 and a median of $76,172. Salaries of judges of general jurisdiction trial courts range from $49,178 to $95,000, with a mean of $69,439 and a median of $68,419. Salaries of State court administrators range from $36,316 to $110,000 with a mean of $66,766 and a median of 64,431. State-by-State data on salaries are provided in tabular form. Information resources on judicial compensation commissions and judicial fringe benefits are noted.
