Youth workers and residents worked cooperatively and effectively at the Milton Keynes housing estates to organize a city-wide program of junior youth work.
Abstract
This description of the Junior Youth Work Project, organized in 1979, outlines procedures for creating and maintaining a new club, project management and staffing, and program achievements and difficulties. The project recruits local residents to set up and operate junior youth clubs on housing properties which lack play and youth facilities or which have high rates of unemployment and crime. A project worker encourages volunteers to accept full responsibility for organizing and operating the youth activities. To maintain the enthusiasm and commitment of volunteers, the project provides training, specialist skill workers, and inter-club events and makes available for hire a central pool of equipment for all clubs. The primary project achievement has been to involve residents in creating a city-wide program of junior youth activities. 2 tables
