FINAL REPORT OF THE COURTS IMROVEMENT PROGRAM THAT WAS IMPLEMENTED TO DEVELOP PROCEDURES THAT ARE MOST EFFECTIVE FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF METROPOLITAN COURTS.
Abstract
FIRST DESCRIBED ARE THE MAJOR TASKS OF THE PROJECT. THE RESULTS OF QUESTIONNAIRES SENT TO FORTY-SIX COURTS ARE THEN DISCUSSED. THE QUESTIONNAIRES CONCERNED THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: THE PETIT JURY, VOIR DIRE, AND THE GRAND JURY. AT THE ANNUAL MEETING IN 1972 OF THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE (IN SAN FRANCISCO), REPORTS OF JUDGE TEAMS THAT VISITED SELECTED COURTS WERE PRESENTED, AND THESE ARE SUBJECTS OF THE FOURTH SECTION. FOLLOWING SECTIONS INCLUDE THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE JURY SELECTION PROCESS, THE PROPOSED ACT, AND FURTHER RELATED COMMENTARY. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE OFFERED IN THE FINAL SECTION.
