This third episode of Just Science Podcast’s Supporting Medicolegal Death Investigators mini season features Rebecca Reid, the Laramie County Coroner in Wyoming, and Meghan Clarke, Family Advocate Coordinator at the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. The podcasters discuss the historic need for family and community advocates and specific strategies for support and remembrance. They also discuss how their own programs developed, noting the role of Local Outreach of Suicide Survivors (LOSS) teams, police departments, as well as other local community organizations; they also discuss impacts of mental health services, and grants and funding opportunities. The podcasters also provide advice on how other medicolegal death investigation (MDI) offices can start building programs to support the families of decedents.
