Abstract
Highlights of accomplishments by Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program (JMHCP) grantees in 2011 include the following: over 3,000 partnerships were established by Planning grantees, including 2,490 with government agencies; training sessions by Implementation and Expansion grantees included 200 sessions on Specialized Police-based Responses (SPRs) to individuals with mental illness in crisis, and training for more than 2,000 law enforcement and mental health providers and over 1,300 other criminal justice personnel; and Implementation and Expansion grantees had over 4,000 new admissions and over 1,000 program completions in court, corrections, and juvenile-based programs. This report to the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) contains performance measures submitted by JMHCP grantees for the period January - December 2011. The JMHCP offers financial and technical assistance to States, State and local courts, and Indian tribal governments with plans to implement a project between criminal justice and mental health partners to develop, start, or expand a current justice and mental health collaboration program. JMHCP grants are awarded in three separate categories: Planning, Planning and Implementation, and Expansion. The collaborative plans developed through this program are used to change the identification and treatment of criminal justice-involved individuals with mental illness. Between 2007 and 2011, Planning grantees received over $1.6 million in funding, Planning and Implementation grantees received almost $21 million in funding, and Expansion grantees received just over $7 million in funding. Beginning in 2012, grantees will submit revised performance measures aimed at addressing BJA's programmatic and reporting requirements. Tables and figures
