HANDBOOK FOR THE ORGANIZATION OF A COMMUNITY STUDY, PROVIDING GUIDELINES AND QUESTIONS FOR VISITS AND INTERVIEWS.
Abstract
THE TASK FORCE OF THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF JEWISH WOMEN (NCJW) STRONGLY RECOMMENDS THAT ANY ORGANIZATION INTERESTED IN CHILD ADVOCACY SHOULD FIRST STUDY THE LOCAL COURTS, DETENTION CENTERS, INSTITUTIONS, AND PROBATION SYSTEM BEFORE SETTING UP SERVICE PROJECTS. FOLLOWING A REVIEW OF THESE AREAS AND A DISCUSSION OF DELINQUENCY CLASSIFICATION AND CAUSATION, THE NCJW HANDBOOK CONSIDERS PROCEDURES FOR ORGANIZING A STUDY. IN ADDITION TO GUIDELINES FOR FACILITY VISITS, INTERVIEW QUESTIONS FOR THE POLICE, JUDGES, LAWYERS, PROBATION OFFICERS, DETENTION CENTER AND INSTITUTION STAFF MEMBERS, AND SOCIAL SERVICE PERSONNEL ARE PRESENTED. QUESTIONS FOR YOUNGSTERS WHO HAVE BEEN IN INSTITUTIONS ARE ALSO INCLUDED. THIS PUBLICATION CONTAINS A BRIEF ARTICLE ON SERVICE PROJECTS AND A COMMUNITY SCORE CARD FOR STUDY RESULTS. A BIBLIOGRAPHY IS INCLUDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
