These California Juvenile Court Rules cover the commencement of juvenile court proceedings; the general conduct of juvenile court proceedings; nonstatutory procedures; intercounty transfers; subsequent petitions, modifications, and appeals; cases petitioned under section 300; and cases petitioned under sections 601 and 602.
Abstract
The Juvenile Court Rules, which took effect July 1, 1977, are intended to provide uniformity in applying juvenile court law across counties and guidance for juvenile court personnel. The rules distinguish procedures for predelinquent and delinquent minors from those for dependent children. The rules identify the purposes of an effective intake program and clarify proceedings before a referee. Requirements for detention hearings are specified, and discovery procedures are established. The rules also cover the granting of immunity to witnesses. The rules provide that in dependency proceedings, the probation officer or social worker must recommend a plan for reuniting the family if removal from the home is proposed. The rules also provide for annual hearings on the placement of a dependent child.
