Abstract
THE SUBCOMMITTEE CONSIDERED PROPOSING LEGISLATION WHICH WOULD REGULATE THE INTERSTATE SALE OF SO-CALLED MASTER AUTO KEYS, REQUIRE UNIFORM IDENTIFICATION OF ALL NEW CARS, PRESCRIBE UNIFORM STANDARDS FOR TITLING OF AUTOMOBILES. THESE STANDARDS TO BE IMPLEMENTED BY THE STATES OFFER NEW METHODS FOR THE HANDLING OF FEDERAL AUTO THEFT OFFENDERS, EMPHASIZING THE COOPERATION OF FEDERAL AND STATE CORRECTIONAL SYSTEMS. THERE ARE 50 EXHIBITS INCLUDED. AMONG THEM ARE COMPILATION OF AUTO THEFT LAWS BY STATE, PHOTOGRAPHS AND ADVERTISEMENTS FOR MASTER MANIPULATIVE OR TRYOUT KEYS AVAILABLE THROUGH MAIL ORDER, PHOTOGRAPHS OF VEHICLES WHICH HAVE BEEN STOLEN AND DAMAGED OR STRIPPED, NEWSPAPER EDITORIALS ON AUTO THEFT, ILLUSTRATIONS OF PROPOSED ANTI THEFT DEVICES FOR NEW AUTOMOBILES, CAMPAIGN MATERIALS FOR AUTO THEFT PREVENTION CAMPAIGN, AND TEXT OF PROPOSED LEGISLATION.
