A 1982 study of juvenile delinquency in Bangladesh revealed that, while the problem is increasing, most juvenile offenders are arrested on charges of "misbehavior" and their cases are eventually dismissed by the courts. The data was collected from police records and the National Institute for Correctional Services.
Abstract
The statistics also showed that nationally, the proportion of juvenile offenders to the total offender population is very small. However, in the large metropolitan city of Dhaka, where there is widespread poverty and unemployment, the proportion of juvenile delinquency is three times that of the national average. The largest categories of offense are those which violate community conduct standards and those committed against property including theft, burglary, and pickpocketing. Most offenders are remanded to training schools, a small portion are granted probation, and about one-third are released after their court hearings. 5 tables and 18 references
