Abstract
QUESTIONS CONSIDERED BY THE SUBCOMMITTEE INCLUDE - HOW PROGRAM CONTENT IS DETERMINED, WHO MAKES THE DECISIONS AND HOW IS SUCH POLICY ESTABLISHED, WHAT CONSIDERATION IS GIVEN BY THE POLICYMAKERS TO THE CHILD AUDIENCE WHICH WILL BE VIEWING THE PROGRAMS, WHAT IS THE EXISTING SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE FROM RESEARCH REGARDING THE KNOWN EFFECTS ON CHILDREN AND WHAT ARE THE LIMITS OF SUCH EVIDENCE, AND FINALLY TO WHAT EXTENT CAN ONE BE ASSURED THAT TELEVISION IS FULFILLING A CONSTRUCTIVE ROLE IN THE LIVES OF CHILDREN AND WHAT SAFEGUARDS ARE NEEDED TO PROVIDE SUCH ASSURANCE. THE WITNESSES INCLUDED EXECUTIVES OF THE TELEVISION NETWORKS, CHAIRMAN OF THE FCC, SECRETARY OF HEW, EDUCATORS AND PSYCHOLOGISTS.
