REPORT PROVIDING DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT CHILDREN FOUND TO BE DELINQUENT OR IN NEED OF SUPERVISION BY THE NEW YORK CITY FAMILY COURT.
Abstract
THE FIRST SECTION DELINEATES THE ENVIRONMENT FROM WHICH THE CHILDREN COME, THEIR ETHNIC ORIGINS, SEX, AGE, SOCIAL HISTORY, AND THEIR OFFENSES. THE OTHER SECTION OF THE DOCUMENT DEALS WITH WHAT HAPPENS TO THESE CHILDREN IN TERMS OF DISPOSITIONS, AND THE VARIABLE FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THESE DISPOSITIONS. THE AUTHORS OF THIS REPORT RECOGNIZED TWO MAJOR PROBLEMS OF THE PRESENT SYSTEM OF HANDLING JUVENILES: THE LACK OF ADEQUATE AND DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT THE FAMILIES AND CHILDREN INVOLVED AND THE FRAGMENTED AND COMPARTMENTALIZED DELIVERY OF SERVICE SYSTEMS. THE REPORT ITSELF OFFERS INFORMATION AND, FURTHER, MAKES RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INCREASING THE PROBATION STAFF, PROVIDING SPECIAL SCHOOL PROGRAMS, AND PROVIDING RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES.
