INTENDED TO INFORM EDUCATORS OF THE CHANGING SCENE OF JUVENILE JUSTICE, THIS ARTICLE OUTLINES THE RECENT COURT DECISIONS ON CHILDREN'S RIGHTS, THE FUNCTIONS OF THE JUVENILE COURT, AND DISPOSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR JUVENILES.
Abstract
BOTH THE JUVENILE COURT INTAKE PROCESS AND THE ADJUDICATORY PROCESS ARE DESCRIBED. A SUMMARY OF THE KINDS OF DISPOSITIONAL ALTERNATIVES CURRENTLY IN USE AND THE MAJOR CASE TYPES MOST FREQUENTLY FOUND IN JUVENILE COURT IS PROVIDED. FOR EACH CASE TYPE, THE TYPICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JUVENILE INVOLVED AND THE PROBABLE DISPOSITION OF THE JUVENILE ARE DESCRIBED. FINALLY, A REVIEW OF DELINQUENCY LEGISLATION IS PRESENTED.
