Abstract
THE INFORMATION PRESENTED IN THIS REPORT WAS OBTAINED FROM EXTENSIVE INTERVIEWS OF THOSE INVOLVED IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM OF HENNEPIN COUNTY. A POSITION STATEMENT OF THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS ON SEVERAL ISSUES IN JUVENILE JUSTICE IS FIRST PROVIDED. ALSO INCLUDED IS A GLOSSARY OF TERMS USED AND A HISTORY OF THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM. AMONG THE TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS REPORT ARE JUVENILE DETENTION AND INTAKE, ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES, THE PUBLIC DEFENDER, THE VARIOUS TYPES OF HEARINGS FOR JUVENILES, TRIALS, APPEALS, AND JUVENILE PROBATION. ALSO EXAMINED ARE THE TYPES OF OUT OF HOME CARE AVAILABLE TO JUVENILES, ALTERNATIVE AGENCIES, AND JUVENILE RECORDS.
