THE EFFECTIVENESS OF JUVENILE CORRECTIONS PROGRAMS, THE HANDLING OF JUVENILE STATUS OFFENDERS, CHILD ADVOCACY, THE ROLES OF PROBATION AND POLICE OFFICERS AND SCHOOL COUNSELORS, AND PREVENTION PROGRAMS ARE DISCUSSED.
Abstract
THESE SPEECHES AND DISCUSSIONS BY POLICE AND PROBATION OFFICERS, JUDGES, SCHOOL COUNSELORS, AND EXPERTS IN THE FIELD OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY ARE SUITABLE FOR BOTH PROFESSIONALS AND NONPROFESSIONALS. DISCUSSION COVERS THE CONSEQUENCES OF DETAINING JUVENILE STATUS OFFENDERS; AND THE NEED FOR CHILD ADVOCACY SERVICES TO HELP DISCOVER THE REAL CAUSES OF INDIVIDUAL JUVENILES' PROBLEMS, TO ENHANCE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN JUVENILES AND AGENCIES AND AMONG THE AGENCIES THEMSELVES, AND TO PROVIDE MEDIATION. SPECIFIC PROGRAMS HIGHLIGHTED INCLUDE A DALLAS PROGRAM TO PREVENT SCHOOL DROPOUTS AND THREE MORAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS TO HELP PREVENT JUVENILE DELINQUENCY. SPEAKERS ALSO CONSIDER DECISIONS FACING PROBATION OFFICERS AND THE POLICE ROLE IN PREVENTING JUVENILE DELINQUENCY, AS WELL AS METHODS TO HANDLE DISRUPTIVE STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM. A TABLE OF CONTENTS IS PROVIDED. FOR RELATED MATERIAL, SEE NCJ 67674-81.
