Abstract
The editor advises that this book should be useful for upper-division undergraduate and graduate students majoring in criminology and criminal justice. It should also be useful for practitioners and administrators both as a desktop reference and as a resource for updating their knowledge about the most effective interventions and practices with juvenile offenders. Grounded in history, program evaluations, and extensive research, the chapters present the latest evidence-based policies, programs, and innovative treatment alternatives. The various sections of the book examine the entire juvenile justice system, including juvenile law, policies, practices, and research. The editor notes that the most promising aspect of the 21st century is evidence-based practice, which attempts to base program designs and treatment-offender matching on proven practices whose effectiveness has been shown through valid evaluation research. The concluding chapter of the book documents the 10 most effective juvenile offender treatment programs based on longitudinal evaluation research.
