Intended to assist California law enforcement and criminal justice trainers in developing appropriate lesson plans relating to juvenile law and procedure, this manual presents definitions, case law, excerpts of California law, and related information regarding six performance objectives contained in the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training Basic Course.
Abstract
The topics covered include the purposes of the California juvenile court law, the scope of the authority of the juvenile court, the conditions that allow a police officer to take a minor into temporary custody, and conditions under which a minor must be advised of constitutional rights. Other topics include the separation of minors from adult inmates, the concept of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, waiver of juvenile court jurisdiction, and procedural due process.
