This 2002 Annual Report of the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department (Texas) presents data and information on the operation and cases of the department in 2002.
Abstract
As mandated in the Texas Juvenile Justice Code the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department provides services that include treatment, training, rehabilitation, and incarceration of juvenile offenders, while emphasizing responsibility and accountability of both parent and child for the child's conduct and offering the most opportunities for those youth who show the greatest potential for positive change. One section of this report profiles the activities of the TRIAD Prevention Program, which provides intake services for juvenile status offenses or Class C misdemeanors, as well as youth in need of supervision. In addition to intake services, the program operates the Choices Program of Harris County, which is a multiagency program devoted to serving those youth who have just entered the juvenile justice system for the first time or are at risk of becoming involved. Other sections of this report profile the work of the various departmental divisions, including the Preadjudication Institutions Division, the Probation Services Division, the Residential Facilities and Related Services Division, the Community Development Division, the Administrative Services Division, the Budget and Information Technology Division, and the Human Resources Division. Remaining sections of the report describe juvenile justice education programs, the juvenile justice alternative education program, and the juvenile justice charter school.
