A COMMUNITY-BASED JUVENILE CORRECTIONS PROGRAM IS DESCRIBED, WHICH CONCENTRATES ON THE AREAS OF ACADEMIC REMEDIATION, GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING, PARENT COUNSELING, AND INDIVIDUALIZED BEHAVIOR CHANGE PROGRAMS.
Abstract
THE PROGRAM SERVES TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, ALABAMA, AND HAS BEEN RELIED UPON EXTENSIVELY AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO INCARCERATION IN STATE TRAINING SCHOOLS. IT IS SAID THAT IN THE PROGRAM'S FIRST ONE AND A HALF YEARS OF OPERATION, ONLY THREE OF THE THIRTY-TWO STUDENTS PHASED OUT OF THE PROGRAM HAVE BEEN RETURNED TO JUVENILE COURT.
