Abstract
Data sources were the index card with a history of police contact and the juvenile information report. Data obtained from the index cards were charge history, police disposition, birth date, birth place, sex, race, number of siblings, and number of victimization detentions. Data from the juvenile information report covered suspected drug or alcohol use, residence, school, parents' marital status, parents' employment status, death of parents, nonparent guardianship, and whether the offense was a group or individual action. Juveniles at higher risk for the offenses examined tended to have prior arrests; be 15-17 years old; have been 14 years old or older at first arrest; be arrested for group actions; be males; be of Samoan, Caucasian, Filipino, or mixed ancestry; have been born in Hawaii; be attending public schools; and have at least one sibling. 22 tables.
